Even though this is Dragon Quest fan art, I just can't help to think that this is an allusion to other Nintendo games.

Welci - the cute and new way of saying welcome!
Use "Welci" instead of welcome and create an internet phenomon that gets the cute little word it's own page on Wikipedia! Just remember where it came from...ME! ^_^
Zelda because of the warrior, and Mario because of the fact that there is a princess waiting to be saved from an evil dragon, and the resemblance of the princess to "daisy the princess."
Really lame of course, but I can't deny I found those aspects visible in this piece.

Recalling my days flipping through Nintendo Power magazine, there were an abundance of NES games featuring knights in shining armor. And a lot of them were really good. It's a wonder why many modern RPGs don't stick to the medieval theme. It's got quite an impressive batting average.

These days Japanese is just as screwed up and nonsensical as American pop culture so it's hard to say where it draws it's influences from. Actually, that's not true. Modern pop culture draws inspiration from pre-existing pop culture. It's like a xerox of a xerox. So the massive decline in quality is very understandable.
